Empowering students, scholars, and professionals to communicate, think, and grow with clarity.
I offer tailored workshops, training sessions, and resource development for universities, doctoral colleges, and academic support programmes. My work focuses on helping students and early-career researchers thrive in academic environments, both intellectually and practically.
Researcher Development
Managing Life in Academia as an Early Career Researcher. PhD students often feel lost during the final stages of their degree. What should they be doing? What options are available? How can they position themselves for success? In this session, I draw on my own experience (as well as insights from friends and colleagues) to help navigate the personal and professional challenges that arise after completing a PhD.
Publishing and Expectations after the Viva. The thesis is written, submitted, and defended… now what? Expectations for what to do with a thesis vary across disciplines, but one thing is clear: it can, and should, be exploited to strengthen your CV. Whether you're turning chapters into journal articles or transforming the entire thesis into a book, this session explores how to identify the right journals and shares insights from my own experience with Oxford University Press — covering everything from submitting a proposal to successfully signing a book contract.
Professional Skills
(Critical) Thinking. What does it mean to think critically? Or even to think at all? Whether you're a student, researcher, or professional, this session is designed to help you formulate and express your ideas more effectively. I believe that most people are capable of producing remarkably insightful ideas, but there is an art to developing and communicating them clearly. This session explores that art.
Presentation Techniques. Effective communication is one of the most marketable skills today. Teachers, entrepreneurs, business professionals, the list of roles that require strong public speaking skills is long. For some, it comes naturally, but for many, it's a challenge. This session covers everything from body language and vocal delivery to designing clear and impactful slides.
Technical Training
Introduction to LaTeX. There is a better, more efficient way to write. I’m evangelical about LaTeX, one of the most powerful tools available for producing beautifully typeset documents. Whether you're working on a thesis, report, or presentation, the limitations and frustrations of Microsoft Office are all too familiar. LaTeX offers flexibility, precision, and professional quality. I’ve been training students and colleagues to use LaTeX as a way to unlock their writing and take full control of their documents.
Digital Resource Creation
Grammar. You can’t truly master a foreign language without understanding its grammar. I have experience developing self-guided online tools for language learning, including grammar-focused platforms tailored to university-level learners. This expertise is ready to be put to use by any company seeking an expert perspective on language education and instructional design.
Oxford Prospects Programmes
I led short courses on critical thinking and presentation skills for international students preparing for academic study in the UK, as well as for professionals and educators in China working in business and teaching sectors.
Ulster University — Doctoral College
Delivered postgraduate workshops on managing academic life and introduced LaTeX to doctoral students in an accessible, hands-on format.
Queen’s University Belfast
Developed a self-paced online resource to support French grammar learning, used by students across various levels.
